'God in His infinite goodness sometimes sees fit to test our courage and love by depriving us of the things which it seems to us would be advantageous to our souls; and if He finds us earnest in their pursuit, yet humble, tranquil and resigned to do without them if He wishes us to, He will give us more blessings than we should have had in the possession of what we craved.'

That sounds very lovely. I hope desperately that it's true, although I seriously doubt that my behavior the last few years could be called "tranquil."
This post was written on what would have been the due date of my most recent lost pregnancy. I believe it's something I need to contemplate now. Thank you.
I thought suffering was for the unlucky most of my life. I knew the saints regarded it as a gift, but I was clueless as to why.
The thing about suffering is, it purifies you and draws you closer to God IF you understand that it can. If you don't have that understanding, it seems senseless.
