"If you could completely privatize just one government function, what would that be?"

David Warren would privatize the schools.

Warren provides a broad historical framework that justifies the privatization argument. The continued stagnation, at best, of US student test scores on national assessments that badly compare to foreign results demands alternatives that go beyond the bureaucratic spend more efforts of Obama. The mass media has tried to boost the Washington DC based "reform" efforts of Ed Secrty Duncan and DC schools boss Rhee. Creativity and true diversity, ie, intellectual and not ethnic diversity, can't be found in the media-promoted mega-programs.

One waits for the Tea Party and those conservatives who do have media access to begin a serious rebuttal to the education system. The shibboleth that it's all the"teacher union"'s fault won't fly.

A public that is mentally passive and functionally illiterate, witout deep spiritual values, will not demand control over schools. We do not exactly have Puritans, or religiously and historically literate Jewish or Irish Catholic parents anymore as the majority of our school parents.

This populace created and supports reality so called TV. And you want them to run the schools? Create options for the dwindling numbers of parents with culture remaining in their genes to do that, and to go off in the symbolic wilderness to create monasteries of learning in our current state of barbarism.
