"The Special Assistant for Reality"

Every president needs one. Traditionally, they are childhood and college friends, and more importantly, the wife. The presidential bubble is inescapable, and the wife is sometimes the only one who can kick Mr. President's behind. The least successful presidents generally lack a wife with political or common sense, or in some cases, the president is too pig-headed to listen to her wisdom.

What Obama needs is the phone numbers of an accountant in a middle-class suburb whose clients are facing bankruptcy, an African American entrepreneur who finds federal programs and taxes are the biggest impediments to his success, and one white and one black teenager who find public high schools utterly boring and irrelevant, yet don't turn to crime or unacceptable behavior.

He should speak by videophone with each of these people once a week, minimum, and not just say hi and discuss their local college or pro basketball team. He should communicate to them how he plans to totally change govt approaches to their problems.

In addition, Obama might want to read the Conservative Mind by Russell Kirk and explain to an intelligent conservative journalist like Will just what is it about Tradition doesn't work anymore.

Obama can compare and explain by blog to all his opinion about the power of Tradition to inspire people to use their inherent talents to succeed and behave well to the govt health and welfare programs he does support that never worked and won't work.
